Today is International Women's Day and I wanted to share with you, one of my very first female role models - Wonder Woman! Whilst most women would cite their mother as an early role model, I'd have to say mine was Wonder Woman. I even remember dressing up as her for Halloween in kindergarten!

I was so drawn to her strong character, masterful crime fighting skills with her Amazon bracelets, and beauty and grace while wielding her Golden lasso. All these years later, a part of me still aspires to be her in each area of my life.

I guess I'm old fashioned, because I still love pen and paper, flipping through magazines, carrying around tattered books and writing in journals. And even though I keep all my appointments on google calendar now, I still have a hard copy of it in my diary! I think it's my age showing... It seems that the whole world has descended upon Paris this week! Friends, buyers, press and designers and all over the show and we're getting so many visitors! Despite the somewhat hidden location of the show at Atelier Richelieu, I'm loving the atmosphere here. It's a bright and airy, there's a cool soundtrack playing in the background and the venue is in the heart of Paris. All the fellow designers are young, friendly and relaxed, and we're enjoying swapping industry tips and experiences.

I just received this delightful story from my girlfriend, Georgina and had to share it!

"I'm writing to tell you a little story about one of your clutches...

We were at a wedding in Drome (near Lyon) last week. 250 people. Mainly French. It was an incredibly hot day, and I hadn't eaten lunch or breakfast, and so half way through the ceremony, I decided to pass out. Yes, faint. As I'm coming round, I find myself lying at the back of the church on a pew, with a number of people fanning me etc. As my eyes come into focus, I see that one of the fanners was holding what looked like a clutch of yours. So, as they're patting me, checking my pulse and sticking chocolate down my throat, the first thing I ask is "Is that a Mischa bag?". The girl looked at me blankly, opened the bag, checked, and said "why, yes! I bought it in Bali!"

So, there you go! The world shrinketh. And your bag empire groweth!"

I've always had an obsession for Japanese textiles and traditional costumes. I think I love the theatricality of it. In MISCHA, as well as using vintage obi, I try to incorporate that aesthetic sense into my designs without it being too cliche.

So I had to post these recent images of the Armani Privè F/W 2011 Collection. Besides the characteristic sleek clean lines of Armani tailoring, he drew from the Japanese kimono silhouette, the obi is represented by a leather bodice and he used the bright colours and floral elements worn by young girls and geisha. Hot! Here are my favourites.

I love this image of my friend Thuy Tien, I think it really captures the mood of 1960's fashion and reminds me of the Mad Men series that I'm crazy about. She is wearing a deep purple Thai silk dress which she designed, made the pattern for, and sewed by hand herself! I love her Parisian style, the simple and elegant way she wore it with a fetiche Brazilian necklace and an Envelope Clutch which is made from an obi from the 1960's. It features a bold hexagon and cloud design in a bright orange reminiscent of that era.

I'm inspired by her passion for textiles and it brings me back to the early days when I was sewing my first collection of obi clutches into the early hours. I call her ze Parisian seamstress because she's been drawing, designing, paying immaculate attention to detail and sewing since we first met. Today is the debut of her children's wear brand Le Petit Caravane, which celebrates childhood through rich and vibrant colours and textures. I witnessed the whole process from infancy to launch, all the fittings done on her beautiful daughter Iris, and am so proud of her today!

I love markets!! Some of my very first vintage obi and kimonos were found at so called temple markets, which commonly take place in the grounds of shrines all over Japanese cities. One very famous one in Kyoto takes place at the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. Every 25th of the month, the surrounding grounds fill up with hundreds of stalls selling everything from antique ceramics, prints, kimono and obi. Not to mention delicious piping hot local treats like Okonomiyaki and Takoyaki while roaming around endless stalls of curios.

This stall had beautifully folded kimonos and obi. You'll be seeing some of them in the next collection.

I really liked this beaded bag. What was unusual was that it's quite a common Western style bag, but they used traditional Japanese motifs in the pattern; the geometric hexagon design which my Travel Series is based on, the wave pattern commonly seen in origami paper and the Japanese saya or key pattern.

Maiko For a Day

Ok, so the last entry was a cheeky little trick! Pictured here is me and my friend Mariko in full maiko, apprentice geisha, outfit. I've always wanted to don the white make up and the full kimono of a Geisha. Friends of mine will know that I love playing dress up and this time I finally got the chance! After a bit of research, we found the Shiki Kitano, a small studio in quiet Higashiyama-Ku. An historical part in Eastern Kyoto, boardered by the Higashiyama mountain range, World Heritage Kiyomizu Temple, Yasaka Shrine and just in front, the entertainment district of Gion where Geisha have entertained for centuries.

The ladies were reluctant to let us document the process with photos, so all I have is the following images which were taken after wards in traditional streets around the studio. The process of getting made up and being dressed by two to three professional dressers took about 45 minutes, after which we marveled at our reflections. I chose a deep purple kimono and a black and gold obi with my favourite sakura and hexagon combination.

According to the ladies, I made for a convincing Maiko, on account of my traditionally sought after round face and features. When we took our stroll along the lanes of low rise shops and houses, believing we were authentic Geisha, we were stopped numerous times for photos. Giggles!

I like this photo very much, it shows how the obi is tied and left hanging loose, worn exclusively this way by maiko and young girls. The white make up exposes the back of the neck, and the collar of the kimono is worn seductively low. Being in full make up, several layers of under kimonos, padding and reinforcements is akin to being in a corset. It's constricting but gives you very upright posture, transports you back in time and makes you feel positively feminine and demure. I can't wait for the next time I'm back, I'd really like to try the more elegant Geiko style of dress!

Today was the first sunny day after two cold and rainy days, but it didn't stop us from our explorations. In our wanderings I discovered a new vintage obi and kimono store and found some very interesting fabrics for what will be the Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Because of the fear of radiation and uncertainty following the recent earthquake and tsunami, my sourcing trip had to be delayed until now. Though, I believe good things are always worth waiting for and I hope my upcoming collection will not disappoint.

This is one of my favourite new finds. It's not the typical colourful Fukuro obi that I choose for my Envelope Clutches. This is a Maru obi, woven in the Nishijin style of Kyoto and more subdued in colour.

You can see in the close up that it is an intricately woven pattern of cranes and ferns on a black background, with gold and bronze threads.

In the upcoming collection you will be seeing a new style of clutch! I've been using the prototype for a few weeks and am convinced that fans of MISCHA will embrace it. Although my original Envelope clutch, has been my favourite since the beginning, I anticipate that the new "Folio Clutch" will surpass it in popularity. I've chosen to use mostly Maru obi for the new shape. They are more subdued in pattern and colour so the feeling is more androgynous and contemporary. And the best part; you won't have the problem you usually do with smaller clutches of deciding what you can bring, everything fits inside it!

Kyoto Inspiration

It's been a while since I came to Kyoto so I decided to make this trip to retrace the origins of MISCHA, get inspired and gather material for a future exhibition. In the daily running of business, I realised that I'd lost touch with the reason I started it in the first place; my fascination with traditional Japanese textiles and design. On my first trip here years ago, sakura were in full bloom and it was sunny every day. Every turn around every corner revealed another quiet street of perfectly preserved architecture, an ancient shrine, traditional eatery and elegant kimono clad ladies of all ages going about their day.

Take another turn and you would glimpse a small group of Geisha, characterised by their immaculate white made up and colourful garments, hurrying to their early evening engagement in Pontochō. It was like going back in time and thus began my love affair with Japan.

So I'm here to experience Kyoto once again, this time with my friend and Kyoto native, Mariko, who grew up a stone's throw away from Nijo castle. Our first stop was to the Nishijin Textile Industrial Association, documenting the history of Kyoto Nishijin weaving techniques used in creating the elaborate designs required in kimono fabrics.

Call me old fashioned, but I love the romanticism of old world travel. Journeying for days and arriving at your destination by steam engine with leather trunks and monogrammed luggage. Accordingly, MISCHA's Spring/Summer 2011 Travel Series was inspired by one of my favourite movies, The Darjeeling Limited, and the 11 pieces of distinctive luggage made specifically for the movie.

I'm not usually a fan of Louis Vuitton but this collection of luggage was devoid of the usual pattern, and really captured the adventure of old fashioned travel. It was designed by Marc Jacobs and includes monogrammed steamer trunks, duffels, and suitcases covered in a wacky jungle animal pattern created by the director, Wes Anderson's brother, Eric.

I'm so excited about the bright new colours of the collection and additional small accessories too! The collection is scheduled to be in stores early April 2011, and a stylish new silhouette will be launched just in time for the Summer jet setting in June. Does the duffel below give you any ideas?

In addition, MISCHA will be participating in a fun fundraiser this Wednesday to support V-Day, a global activist movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations such as W.I.S.E. Asia.

MISCHA Celebrates Women

'MISCHA aspires to create powerful, expressive and individual accessories' for who..? Hopefully, for equally powerful, expressive and individual women. I've always taken interest in the issues affecting women today, and therefore, as much as possible, MISCHA tries to support the charities dedicated to helping women.

International Women’s Day is 8 March 2011. In celebration of this, MISCHA is partnering with The Women’s Foundation in a citywide retail initiative in aid of underprivileged women and girls in Hong Kong. Established in 2004, The Women’s Foundation is a leading non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in Hong Kong through research, education, public awareness and programs.

MISCHA is partnering with The Women’s Foundation to donate 10% of its proceeds in the month of March, to support the charity. All funds raised as part of this initiative will be used to support the Foundation’s community programs; empowering women in poverty, combating gender stereotyping
and promoting female leadership in Hong Kong.

Happy New Year everyone! What a busy year 2010 was. After a much needed detox retreat in Koh Samui, I'm rejuvenated and ready for MISCHA's first event of the year and first creative collaboration - the launch of the 'MISCHA for Kapok' Collection! Created in creative collaboration with the lovely Arnault Castel, founder of Kapok, the collection has been more than six months in the making. We took MISCHA's signature print, naturally made it in Kapok green and paired it with some wacky and colourful trims. Notwithstanding a few little hiccups along the way, the collection was ready just in time! I'm so excited and honored to be presenting the collection as part of Kapok's First Anniversary celebration this Friday.

Oh what a year we've had so far! Tomorrow marks the last of MISCHA's events for 2010, and how fitting that we end the year with Christmas at The Space. I'm so happy to be invited to this showcase of fifteen of Hong Kong's coolest boutique brands, many of them, my friends and fellow entrepreneurs/designers, who have experienced the ups and downs of building their own brand with me.

We've got an afternoon of festive frolics planned, at HK's new multi-purpose arts and exhibition space, The Space, gourmet treats and eggnog prepared by AJ Bellarossa from Commune Lab ( I sampled the fluffy cupcakes with Italian butter cream frosting last night, they were so good but so bad!) And all rental proceeds and 5% of sales will be donated to Operation Smile. See below for details.

It's that busy time of year again when everyone is planning parties, holidays, frantically shopping for Christmas presents and MISCHA is going full speed ahead. Our first Lifestyle & Gift Show went off without a hitch at Conrad Hotel, November 22nd. Though, I did notice the turnout wasn't as crazy as usual, maybe because of the fair being held on a Monday?

Despite impending super typhoon Megi, which was threatening to put a damper on all activities in the city, the launch was well attended by MISCHA's supporters and regulars at Indigo. Even though the first season was a success, the apprehension I felt for the new collection, which I'm sure even seasoned designers share, was soon displaced by squeals of delight and cooing. The new Travel wallet and Cardholder were a hit with the ladies and gentlemen too!

Following the MISCHA Travel Series launch last week, the long awaited Fall/Winter Collection of vintage obi clutches will be launched! I wanted to find a new home for the MISCHA Vintage Couture line for a long time, and I'm really happy to have found a new nesting place for them at one of Hong Kong's newest boutique concepts, Forest Bird. I'm really impressed by founder Ulrike Pohl, who moved from her native Berlin to Hong Kong last year. Using her background in architecture and interior design, she created the three-level boudoir like boutique, which boasts a coffee bar, stylish fashion brands, beauty, shoes, jewellery, a Secret Garden bar, and now MISCHA handbags and accessories!

I'm delighted to launch the F/W Collection there and we've got a really exciting night planned. Forest Bird will be shut down for the invitation-only evening. Ulrike and I will be curating ten outfits, combining MISCHA F/W pieces with the season's latest arrivals, into ten unique looks. The Secret Garden bar which opens officially next week, will be stirring up a specially created MISCHA cocktail and the cherry on top, shoppers receive a 10% discount on purchases that evening!

I've never been a very tech savvy individual, I'm an old fashioned pen & paper girl really, and this blog is the pinnacle of my tech 'savvy-ness' to date. Anyway, in my bid to familarise myself with blogspot and be more diligent in my blog entries, I've noticed that many comments have been made in response to my entries. Wow, I can't believe that I actually have a readership! Where relevant, I've commented. MISCHA Signature Print Travel Series - Take Two

Sincere apologies for the long absence. I got lost somewhere between summer trips to Tokyo, a friend's magical wedding in Bali and the preparations for launching two news collections for fall!! As well as the normal F/W Collection of vintage obi clutches I design for MISCHA, I've also created a seasonal collection of the Signature Print 'Travel" series! I'm going to start calling it that from now on, 'The travel series', I like it!

The vintage obi collection is set to launch later in October. I found some beautiful treasures in Japan this summer, so it will be a stunning collection and the new home of MISCHA, where the launch will take place, will be stunning as well!

After the Jet Set tote's popularity, I thought it would be a natural progression to add some small travel items to the series. So, for the holiday season, I'm adding two new items; a card holder and a document holder, which makes a perfect travel wallet. I've experimented with the MISCHA signature print and bright colour combinations. You'll have to come to the launch to see for yourself! Hope to see you there!

Water & Oil: Do They Mix?

Vogue Italia in true form, never fails to cause a stir. Whether it be their provocative fashion editorials featuring models barely clad in the season's newest garments or in this month's issue, The Latest Wave, which features a 24 page spread inspired by the recent Gulf oil spill, Water & Oil. The photographer, Steven Meisel, shot stirring images of model Kristen McMenamy in feathered and netted couture gowns while laying prone and dirty over jagged rocks covered in sleek oil and murky sludge. There is one close up image of Kristen, her face sleek with greasy brown oil which I find especially disturbing. The photos depict the harsh new reality of the environment left behind by British Petroleum’s infamous oil spill.

These images have stirred up quite a bit of controversy. Some say the photos are grotesque and insensitive while others applaud the awareness raised on, to pardon the pun, such sticky situations, that are becoming far too common. I personally think it's genius! So does this spread sell fashion or does it just shock? In my opinion I think it shows that finally people's consciousness of pressing environmental issues are being raised and through an unlikely medium too. The artistic interpretation of such provocative images as McMenamy washed up on the beach really do make a statement. Maybe people will start paying attention now...

After a frenzied week of organising, the debut of MISCHA in Italy was a success. On July 13th, the fashionistas of Torino flocked to Corso Re Umberto 27, down a corridor, behind iron doors and opening out into a beautiful inner courtyard. To use the cliche, it was just like Sex & the City. The ever stylish Italians munched on delectable treats and sipped on wine in the balmy outdoors, while others explored my collection nestled within each room of VerdeLilla.

MISCHA launch in Italy

Work isn't just 'work' for me since I started MISCHA, it's become my passion and life. So whenever I travel, it is always an opportunity to take MISCHA to a new level. I met up with a few fashion friends in the know to show me the best places to shop, get inspired and see if MISCHA had a chance with them. Besides the obvious San Carlo, local favourites Top Ten and Comme Toi, I have to say I wasn't overly impressed and was rapidly losing hope I'd find anything inspiring or different...

Until we arrived at VerdeLilla, this place has one of the most beautiful and elegant surroundings I've seen. I love the fact that it is hidden and advertised by no more than a discreet metal plaque outside the building.

The anticipation of walking through the corridor and into the inner courtyard conjure up the promise of hidden gems and beauty. I'd found the place to launch MISCHA in Italy!

Torino

Back in Torino, the former capital of Italy in the 1870's, is now a political and industrial centre and rather dull compared to the beautiful Tuscan country side in my opinion. Though, it is well-known for its Baroque, Rococo and Neo-classical architecture. Built by Sicilan architect Filippo Juvarra, he modelled them on the Baroque and classical style of Versailles. I always find European cities so much more majestic and romantic because of its stylish architecture.

Wandering around the streets, I found a trio of elegant ladies taking their afternoon tea at the Caffe Baratti.

Sunny Italia

I've been in Italy for a week already and enjoying the relaxing days and sunny weather. A far cry from the frenetic rhythm in Hong Kong. We spent a beautiful weekend at Il Melograno, a beautiful agriturismo, a converted farm house hotel, on a Tuscan hilltop overlooking Perugia. The perfect place to gather your thoughts and find peace and relaxation.

We attended a friend's Italian style wedding, complete with smartly dresses guests, vivacious children, magic act and more food than you eat in a lifetime! the ceremony took place in the town hall in Perugia and then we were whisked off to a villa where the reception took place.

I wore a floral Balenciaga Silk dress with one of my coral coloured Envelope Clutches.

MISCHA signature print was a success!

It was mayhem leading up to the Jet Set tote launch. As if it wasn't enough drama to create my hexagon signature print, inspired by my vintage Japanese obi, transforming the weather proof coated canvas fabric into a well made tote bag with hand stitched leather handles, and getting them delivered on time for the launch was a veritable soap opera!

My MISCHA Signature print tote launched at well known denim boutique, INDIGO in SoHo. Available exclusively until July 22nd, the Periwinkle and Off White totes sold out over the first weekend! Following the launch, my meeting with my favourite design concept shop Kapok went fantastically well and my totes will be available from both their shops and online store from July 22!

Nitrolicious Founder and Editor-in-chief, Wendy Lam attended the launch and chose the white tote with burgundy straps. I hand painted her monogram W.L. in red and black to customise it. Hong Kong celebutant Tricia Chen attended in style, wearing her MISCHA reversible clutch and picked up a matching obi belt.

MISCHA joins the jet set!

At long last, the MISCHA signature print that I have been working on has materialised and taken the form of a the Jet Set tote. The print was inspired by an old Japanese geometric shape, the hexagon. When looking into the archive of all my vintage obi, I discovered that hexagons featured prominently in many of my finds, so I used it as a starting point. The hexagon is the stylised representation of the tortoise shell in Japanese symbolism and represents longevity, quite fitting seeing that my dreams for MISCHA are long lived.

My inspiration for a travel range came from repeated requests from friends and clients for something to meet their need to travel in style, whether by the beach, ski slopes or on a weekend getaway. I wanted to create something light, durable yet chic and timeless. I was very inspired by the great luggage makers I came across during my last trip to Paris, so I opted for a simple tote bag style in weather proof coated canvas and handstitched leather handles and trim. In choosing trim colours, I took inspiration from my observations of Japanese motifs; shiny lacquer boxes for the black patent leather, samurai saddles for the tan leather, and the thick white make-up and red lipstick of the Kyoto Geisha for red and cream leather.

So, the Jet Set tote will be launched at one of my favourite shops, INDIGO, Hong Kong's premiere jeans boutique. As a special treat, I'll be offering a complimentary monogram service for purchases of the tote at the launch. I hope to see you there!

A Fine Collaboration

I recently collaborated in a lovely event with a friend and admired jewellery designer Marielle Byworth. With wines sponsored by our kind friend Julian Faulkner who's been running the family vineyard for the past 12 years, our Wine Degustation and Private Sale was a great success! It was a classy evening of the senses. The MISCHA S/S Collection melded naturally with Marielle's stunning designs and were shown at an intimate gathering to the sounds of clinking glasses of sparkling roses from Le Grand Cros, the endearing backdrop of the Hong Kong skyline and fabulous friends.

Imitation the highest form of flattery?

If imitation is the highest form of flattery, why am I not happy about what a certain vendor of mine has done? For all the Louis Vuittons and Yves Saint Laurents out there, shoddy imitations may be running rampant while loyalty to their brand runs deeper yet. But as an up and coming designer, imitation is just a violation. When I first discovered that my ever popular MISCHA envelope clutches were being ripped off by my own vendor, and sold at a fraction of the price, I braced myself and took it in stride reasoning that, 'imitation was the highest form of flattery'. But a few months down the line and another item later is pushing it!

Whatever happened to protecting intellectual property, encouraging creative expression and supporting independent designers?? Apologies for departing from my normal light-hearted postings, but I feel strongly about this issue and hope that shoppers will appreciate the hard work that goes into building emerging brands.

The end of the year, especially December was absolutely madness with the number of events and sales we were doing. From the Conrad Fair, to the Women's Forum luncheon at the Penninsula, and our first fashion show with White Bridal; Mischa Meets Vera, December was non-stop. To top it off, Mischa was a main sponsor for Dim Sum & Then Some's White Christmas party at Hullet House on the same night as Cosmopolitan were celebrating their anniversary. Kelly and Neveen toted a sparkly Mischa minaudiere and elaborate Envelope clutch, in keeping with the theme. I wore a beautiful sparkly dress designed by Arculli Curran and a silver bridal Dumpling clutch.

Paris Je t'aime

I used to think Paris was over-rated but after my last visit, I'm singing it's praises like every other gushing francophile. My last experience of it being freezing cold and drizzly with miserable locals has morphed into a romantic memory of sunny street side cafes, effortlessly chic and good looking people, and an abundance of culture, history and creative energy on every corner.

I was fortunate to be staying just across the street from the Louvre and beside the Saint Germain l'Auxerrois. To call it the former parish of the kings of France is an understatement, it is an amazing work of art. I found so much inspiration during my week in Paris.

Finally, finally! Mischa's new collection, new face, new logo, new bags are ready! After my last trip to Tokyo and Kyoto, I've been fiendishly working away on everything. A one woman show is a hard thing to run... The past months have been a frantic and hectic journey of pressing deadlines, instructions lost in translation, all kinds of other hold ups which I won't bore you with... but here is one of my favourites!

I love the colour combinations of red, blue and gold on black. The tubulent tsuami waves and lightning bolts juxtaposed against the calming hexagonal pattern, symbolising the tortoise shell and longevity, makes it so much more meaningful.

And here are a few more of my favourites. Since purple is one of my favourite colours, I made sure to hunt down purple obi on my trip.

Last Friday I attended 'Boutique Boulevard' a two week event to celebrate Le French May and showcase some of the best of the French fashion houses in Hong Kong. I was in heaven striding from Roger Vivier to Celine, to Loewe, to Louis Vuiton to Chanel with champagne in hand, and finally to Hermes. At Hermes, they flew over a master craftsmen to demonstrate how a Birkin bag is crafted. It was done with such care and meticulousness.

After a whirlwind of travel to among many, one of my favourite places in the world, Tokyo. I'm back in Hong Kong fully energised and working on my next collection! I spent a hectic yet inspiring week in Tokyo, with a quick detour to Kyoto. It was during the most beautiful time of year when cherry blossoms are in full bloom.

I was in search of more vintage obi for my next collection and found some great treasures in Kyoto. I love Japan in the Spring time!

In my search for inspiration and original ideas, I look for things that move me, that have an emotional impact on me. That is why I crave the experience of travelling, it pushes me out of my normal comfort zone and forces me to open my eyes. The result is like a new-found superpower; the ability, albeit temporary, to see things in a way you've never seen them before and of course to see new things. And in doing so, I feel one gains new insights and the ability to draw on emotions.

So, in a recent attempt, I set off to Art Walk 2009, one of my favourite events promoting Art in HK. I believe I saw a good sampling of modern art, what's in, what's not, what people are buying to collect. Here I am drawing inspiration from other artist's work.

Bombay Dreams

Apologies for the long absense. I was away in India on my research & inspiration trip and my internet connection was not very cooperative. I had such a wonderful time I even extended my stay.

I had planned a trip to Bombay ( I'm sorry, I prefer it over Mumbai) to get inspiration for MISCHA, what better place to go?! I had romantic visions of the Taj Mahal and Maharaja palaces, beautifully sari-drapped women, and enlightened spiritual gurus. I was fully expecting the poverty and chaos, which I'm used to seeing in mainland China and other parts of south east Asia, but not to this degree. The concept that I had of 'bare necessities' was well and truly scrapped. For me, what was initially a trip meant to inspire me artisticially, inspired me on a personal level. A real change took place within me and I was filled with a kind of calm and acceptance.

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't all slums and crumbling buildings. I was fortunate enough to be hosted by friends who were all very well connected and wealthy. So I had a privileged stay and met some truly inspiring people. Life in Bombay is so vibrant and colourful. Everyone has a story that could rival the juiciest of soap operas.

I chosen a few images out of the hundreds that touched me the most.

This last image of of me ready to go to what turned out to be the grandest Indian wedding I've ever been to. There must have been more than a thousand people at the Turf Club grounds. Elegant women dripping in diamonds and other precious jewels, wrapped in colourful floor skimming saris were there to see and be seen. I just couldnt' resist.

W for Wanderlust

Last week I went to the grand opening of the new boutique hotel, W Hong Kong. The theme of the evening was Wanderlust and it was an impressive evening with indulgences fit for an emperor; champagne toting crowds moved between multiple floors from the dazzling KITCHEN restaurant, to the sensual Liquid lounge and chic Living Room to the Asia's first Bliss Spa.

Though my highlight of the evening was the keynote performance by rising star talented actress, singer and dancer Marsha Yuan, backed by some of Hong Kong's best Jazz talent; Eugene Pao, Ted Lo and Sylvain Gangnon. It was absolutely fabulous swaying to the sound of Jazz classics and so pleased that Marsha chose one of my Obi belts to wear for the performance!

The pursuit of It

I've been busy being lost in the clouds and looking for inspiration for Mischa's new It bag. And I don't mean it in the 'It bag of the season', chunky MJ quilted, logos everywhere, padlock that weighs a ton screaming last last season kind of way, of course. I hate to use the cliche, but it's the only phrase I could find to embody that je ne sais quoi that makes a handbag iconic. I mean enduring style and elegance. More than just a container for your things, a great bag, when carried by a great lady, has class. Grace Kelly is the most famous and still the most elegant example of this. When she was featured on the cover of Life Magazine in 1956, shielding her pregnant belly with her Hermes Birkin, her demure gesture launched a collective fantasy: that a bag could transform you from commoner to princess. A great bag promises so much!

Gone are the days of sensibly owning one classic bag, an heirloom that could be passed along, not every woman is content with just one good bag now. We obsess over the newest It bag, the weekend tote, the work bag, the work-out bag, the travel bag, the beach bag, the funky bag, and the, or like me, many sexy evening bags.

And so starts the journey for my It bag design. I trawled shops, magazines, movies, old photos and fashion encyclopedia. What element(s) do the It bags past and present, possess and share, what gives them enduring appeal? My search continues...

Performing under pressure

I spent the whole day yesterday trying to get the last of my Christmas shopping done, what an ordeal! I know... I shouldn't have left it so late, but between running Mischa Designs and coping with the past few hectic months, everything else unfortunately, has had to take the back seat.

Amid the throngs of pushy holiday shoppers and wild-eyed shopaholics, I was able to find some very thoughtful gifts. But more surprisingly, I found inspiration at every turn! I have to admit, I was getting a little distracted, to put it mildly, by shelf after shelf of handbags, mountains of stilettos and colourful racks of clothing. Despite that, I was seeing visions of my next collection emerge! (or it could've been low blood-sugar from my panic-stricken rush around town with neither food nor water) I had visions of colourful opulent silks, new shapes and sizes, of how my vintage obi could be paired with patent leather trims, soft lambskin, and embossed metal hardware, culminating into my version of the IT bag ;)

Who knows, I could be one of the lucky ones, I could be one of those that performs better under pressure! Happy holidays!
